MGF research: what the studies have looked at
This page summarises the published research on MGF, for reference. It states what each study found, including work that reported no effect, and it is not medical advice. MGF has been studied only in laboratory cell and animal models; what we supply is a research chemical for laboratory use only.
What MGF is
MGF (mechano-growth factor) is a splice variant of insulin-like growth factor 1, also called IGF-1Ec, produced by muscle in response to mechanical load. It carries a distinct C-terminal E-peptide. It has been studied in cell and animal models with mixed and sometimes contradictory results; it has not been approved as a medicine.
What the studies investigated
Kandalla et al. (2011), Mechanisms of Ageing and Development 132(4):154. Human muscle progenitor cells. Investigated the E-peptide and reported an effect on proliferative lifespan Source.
Fornaro et al. (2014), American Journal of Physiology 306(2):E150. C2C12 and human myoblasts. Investigated the E-peptide and reported no effect (a null, contradictory finding) Source.
Stavropoulou et al. (2009), Molecular Medicine 15(5-6):127. Rat myocardium after infarction. Investigated expression in myocardium after myocardial infarction Source.
Mechanism, as described in the literature
The literature describes MGF as a locally acting IGF-1 isoform whose distinct E-peptide has been proposed to affect muscle progenitor cells, but the evidence is genuinely mixed: one study reported an effect on the proliferative lifespan of human muscle progenitors, while another reported no effect of the E-peptide in muscle cell lines. That contradiction is part of the record and is stated here as such.
The material we supply
We supply MGF as a research chemical, released against a written specification with a batch certificate of analysis. It is not a medicine and is not for human or animal use. For the vial sizes, the price per mg and how to order, see the MGF product page; the COA lookup pulls the certificate for any batch. The references above link to each study’s record; this summary is for research and educational reference only.
